A Carter Reservoir mustang in the isolated far NW corner of Washoe County, Nevada (5/23/2020). DNA testing has shown this herd to be descended from the original Spanish-Iberian stock brought to the Americas by the marauding & murdering conquistadors. They feature primitive "dun factor" markings of leg stripes, capes under the mane, & a stripe / herringbone down the back as well as other unique markings. carterreservoirmustangs.org/

@ambivalena Thank you! Ya, they are the only mustangs I'll photograph. Very special herd. There are two more herds of Spanish mustangs in SE Oregon and a herd in SW Idaho. I have never seen those herds. But the one in Nevada I have been fortunate to photograph twice after a wet winter when the two waterholes I discovered are full. I am going to miss them after I move.
