How FB wiretapped millions with a VPN
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Please don't post yputube videos without a summary.
in reply to Vendetta9076

I posted a video I feel is worth sharing; particularly as it is an important topic. If you feel a summary is need it then contribute it. There already is a description on what the video is about.
in reply to Vendetta9076

Do you see the text at the bottom? Some information on what the video is about. If you prefer the video in text form consider contributing that.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Actually no I don't. Its also not in a language I understand but that's despite the point.

in reply to Vendetta9076

If your client does not display the description that is not my issue. Also the text is in English at the very bottom. Even if it was not I cannot be making multiple summaries in every possible language to please you.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Aren't you a victim, huh. These ingrates can't even be bothered to watch this 20-minute long video to write a summary themselves to determine if they want to watch the video! /s

For real, if this video is so important and so worth sharing, you could have written a short paragraph about it, instead of arguing with people.

in reply to Doctor MoodMood

Maybe the community can help me out here. The title and the description already state when the topic is. If they want to know more they can watch the video. If they don't have 20min then they can come back to it later.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

It is not tribalism to expect you to behave differently than someone who gets paid per click.

You are not the aggrieved party in this case, everyone who has to deal with your bullshit is.

parks car sideways across six parking spaces

“Oh, look at all this tribalism! Can’t these people tell I’m their ally?”

Just act normal and when people tell you you’re fucking up, take steps to correct it.

in reply to doodoo_wizard

Being asked to write a summary is excessive. I already put a concise description.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Okay so when everyone tells you to behave differently and you think it’s excessive what’s the reasonable thing to do?

A normal person would decide to leave. Oh so im not allowed to park my lifted super duty across six spaces? Fine, guess I’ll take the beats pill to the Walmart parking lot one county over. Your loss, this country rap crossover playlist was about to get epic!

A person who has some kind of perverse negative attention thing would stay. After all, there’s no rules posted in the park that say a grown man can’t sit on the bench wearing nothing but a diaper fastened with a comically large safety pin and bonnet licking an oversized rainbow swirl lollipop. You have every right to be there!

Even if you take umbrage at having your abdl behavior posted about on the internet, you’ve spent more time and written more words defending your choice to post like a fucking adbot.

If you valued your own time you would just be normal instead of doing what you’re doing!

in reply to doodoo_wizard

Writing a summary takes work; which you are asking me to do to convince you to watch. I am sharing something I think is worth sharing; particularly as it may be used for people you know who are new to privacy. The title is edited to remove the cliff hanger and the description states exactly what the video will be about. If you don't find that adequate for your time that is your problem. I don't find it adequate to use more of my time to convince you further.

Please tell me what about the description or title are misleading. They have all the keywords you need to find an article if you really care about the material being written.

in reply to InternetCitizen2

If you cared about getting people to watch the video you posted you would have rewritten the post when asked.

If you cared about your time you wouldn’t be replying.

in reply to doodoo_wizard

A summary is a big ask and you're not entitled to my time for your convenience.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

I’m not trying to get your time. A careful reading of my reply would make it clear I’m trying to help you to accomplish your goals more efficiently.

That’s respecting your time.

in reply to doodoo_wizard

Yeah, and I am explaining that I feel my post was sufficient to that criteria explaining what the video will be about.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Do you think that it’s possible your feelings aren’t accurate, considering how many people are telling you so, across all the instances and communities you made the same post on?
in reply to doodoo_wizard

People's remarks have a theme that they want to know what the video will be about. I feel the title and description fit the criteria. I also feel it is excessive to ask for a summary. That takes far longer to write.

So what information is really missing here. The offending VPN is in the title. Anyone that wants to know more can use the keyword for an article of their choosing. The description is to the point that the video covers how FB wiretapped people with said VPN.

in reply to InternetCitizen2

Again, are you open to the possibility that your feelings aren’t accurate considering, last time I read, all but two comments across half a dozen posts on different instances are telling you that?
in reply to doodoo_wizard

I'm open to it. Some comments had clients that didn't display the description.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Okay so, again, the overwhelming majority are telling you that you are outside the norms and need to change your behavior. You’re open to the possibility that your feelings are pointing you in the wrong direction here and everyone is telling you that’s what has happened.

In this situation what more is needed for you to change?

in reply to InternetCitizen2

So fair enough about the client not displaying the text. Although I realize it does if I click on the cross post. Regardless if both of those things say the same thing then its a dogshit description

Also the whole "in every possible language" thing is pedantic and stupid and I think we both know that.

then its a dogshit description

That is your opinion. In mine it is concise and to the point. You're not entitled to my time to make metadata on topics to your liking.

Also the whole “in every possible language” thing is pedantic and stupid and I think we both know that.

It is, but a part of your grievance was that you didn't get the language. The German bit is added by the lemmy front end.

in reply to InternetCitizen2

Actually its not at all a part of my grievance. Reading comprehension seems to be a fault of yours. Notice how I said "that's despite the point.
in reply to Vendetta9076

Idk I see it all clear on my end. The description is clear clear what the topic will be about.
in reply to SirSamuel

Obviously I can only speak for myself as a non-impaired person, but I am often in spaces where I cannot listen to audio even on headphones. Also a summary is nice to get a feel if I even want to spend the time watching the video later.
in reply to SirSamuel

The other reply is a good answer, but also dropping a video with no context or explanation is a hallmark of content spammers and growth hackers.

Even if looking like a crappy kind of poster isn’t enough to dissuade someone from just dropping a link and fucking off, providing some context and input to how and what the link will do and what it means as a post in the particular community is a lot better behavior and starts a conversation as opposed to doing nothing.

How FB wiretapped millions with a VPN

If its not to your liking that is unfortunate. You can also make a comment to elaborate and contribute to the community and discussion.

in reply to doodoo_wizard

I see. The responses to OP were pretty critical and I couldn't understand why. Now I have a bit of context. Thank you
in reply to SirSamuel

I’m not saying this to insult you in any way, just to express my amazement:

Y’all .world mfs are built different.

in reply to doodoo_wizard

Thanks? NGL the instance I landed on was incidental, but ok. I'm also stoned AF so…
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Never ever post a link to YouTube in a channel that are about privacy! Link to a privacy-friendly front-end like Piped instead.
in reply to airikr

Don't bother. OP refuses to take advice and will just tell you to "do it yourself."
in reply to airikr

I looked at the hosted instances and none were working for me. The filter is a reasonable request. Being asked to write out a summary is not. I wrote the offending VPN on the tittle and a statement on what the video covers, that was still not to @Vendetta9076@sh.itjust.works standards. They are not entitled to my time to add metadata to things to their satisfaction.
in reply to InternetCitizen2

Honestly, writing a summary of a video uploaded to YouTube is a very valid thing to do for any YouTube video (I am not alone with not opening links that goes to Big Tech's services). Just copy and paste the video's description, use DeepL or Offline Translator to translate it if it is not in English. Super easy to do. And if the video does not have any description, just write what the video is all about (but explains more than the title does). Doesn't have to be a long summary.

And for the Piped instances. Yes, unfortunately a lot of them are not working. That is why I installed it on my own server last year or so. But I would rather see a link to a Piped instance than a link to YouTube. That way I have a choice to switch instance. But with a link that leads to youtube.com, I need to copy the URL (if I can) or open the link and spam Esc or the X icon in hope that Google will not log anything about me. Just use piped.video (the official instance) and people will be happy. Much more privacy-friendly, too.

in reply to airikr

So what about the description I wrote is unclear about the video topic?
in reply to InternetCitizen2

What description? :) You wrote the title of the video. That itself explans the topic of the video, but nothing more. We who don't opens the link wants to know in short what the video is truly about.

Anyway. I say good buy now :) Take care.

in reply to airikr

are there any working instances nowadays? Invidious is better on that front.

weird because invidious is harder to maintain

in reply to airikr

oh, I see. no problem. but it's easy to maintain a public instance if it is not publicly listed, and few know about it. with less traffic you are less noticeable.

but good to know the software still works

in reply to InternetCitizen2

the good vpn is your vpn or from your trusted friends the much better when there are homelab solution than vps instead, so, sharing big thech links is not about privacy
in reply to InternetCitizen2

I used Onavo for a short while. But the ick factor of having someone give me a service for free which I know is expensive fired off all kinds of alarm bells and I stopped using it. It’s truly evil that Facebook was just lapping up so much data and in such an anti-competitive way - Onavo was pivotal in FB buying WhatsApp for pennies on the dollar.
in reply to damnthefilibuster

Coupled with the fact they have turned over a private conversation regarding an abortion on messenger; they are a massive undermining of civil rights.
