Walk through the center of Assisi and you'll pass the remains of a Temple to Minerva built in the 1st cent BCE. Most of its facade is still intact. In the Middle Ages, it served as a tribunal and jail. It was later converted into a church: Santa Maria sopra ("above"!) Minerva

You can visit the old Roman square, which is underneath the current square, through the nearby museum.

There are even the steps leading up to the ancient temple.
