#Telegram will start #moderating private chats after #CEO’s arrest

Earlier today, Durov issued his first public statement since his arrest, promising to moderate content more on the platform — a noticeable change in tone after the company initially said he had “nothing to hide”. “It is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform,” the company wrote in an unattributed statement posted in August.

Its worth making a note that this service (and the other lot as well) have the capability to 'listen inn' on private chats. Some may have chosen to not do much of it (yet) but the pressure is on. West seem to want a digital Stasi 2.0 and they will get it.

That's actually only about group chats, which aren't encrypted and aren't private.

Ptivate chats one to one are also not encrypted by default. And even if you switch encryption on ("secret chat"), it is not clear if Telegram has the keys or if the algorithms are really secure.

That is what they said: “All Telegram chats and group chats are private amongst their participants"
So from Telegrams perspective it applies to both, what is new though is that moderation will happen if someone presses a report button.

@Markus Weyand that part wasn't ever true, as it's possible by default to share a web link to a single post...

This is why I wrote "from Telegrams perspective"...
