Bluesky working on a paid subscription

The idea is to offer a subscription that unlocks exclusive features for paid users, very similar to X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue).

@bonkers I'm very interested in all social media and the way it evolves. Used to be registered to 160+ different services during their golden era in 2010 or something. Now I have an account in about 12 which I use daily just 3 (Mastodon, Threads and Instagram).

aaaaaand there goes my intention of setting up a Bluesky account. "We won't uprank accounts just because they're paid" ... with an unspoken "yet".

Gotta love the pay-for-reach networks! They're so democratic! Every dollar gets a vote!

@pre I think they do not make it about reach, yet at least.

"At first, Bluesky will offer the option of uploading videos in higher quality, as well as profile customizations such as avatar colors and frames. More exclusive features should be added in the future for paid subscribers, although Bluesky makes it clear that the platform “will always be free to use.”"

Clients other than the centrally controlled corporate client can presumably do whatever they want with video resolution and avatar colours already, so hard to understand how just paying for a glamour will work if they ever become decentralzied.
