Looking into #ScienceAdvances as a journal to publish in..
Why is there a reference limit, and why is it so low (80 references)? In this day and age? For an online-only journal?

PS: remember that you can rate the submission & revision process of journals on #SciRev scirev.org/

Why would anyone choose a for-profit open access journal over one run by a charity?
in reply to El Duvelle

And society journals won't do, like the Journal of Neuroscience, or the Journal of Neurophysiology? At least they have credible editorial boards and a mission statement that isn't hoarding loot for investors.

@albertcardona

  1. I agree with you
  2. Others... do not necessarily agree and think that IF is more important than reputation, since the main purpose of papers these days is for career advancement and not the spread of knowledge 😣
in reply to El Duvelle

@albertcardona I suspect that the problem is cross discipline decision making. I am regularly involved in assessments in fields I don't know anything about. None of the journals or conferences have any reputation for me. I don't use IF because it's stupid, but I can see why people would.
in reply to Albert Cardona

And in this case who is the intended recipient, who cares about the impact factor of the journals where you publish your papers? Is it your faculty (you can talk to them), or a future grant panel you are sending your grant proposal to (they won't care about IF)?
in reply to Albert Cardona

@albertcardona both, and faculty are the ones suggesting going for higher IF ; grant committees, unsure what they think but they'll probably say that higher IF cannot hurt 😕
in reply to Albert Cardona

@albertcardona SciAdv is from AAAS, which is a non-profit - wouldn't that be better than a for-profit OA journal?
in reply to El Duvelle

PS: just for "fun" especially for those out here who are not in #Academia..

Without looking it up, how much do you think the authors need to pay to get 1 scientific article published in Science Advances (an online open-access journal)?

Update: and the answer is.. $5,450.
