I thought favourites ⭐ were private (just between you and the poster) but it seems they are used to create the #Explore feed in #Mastodon? Why is that? Why not just use boosts? I don't like this 😕

to be fair I'm not even sure where to reach that explore feed but I still don't like this

it's what shows when you're on the search page with no search term.

it helps create trends that are approved by the admin/ moderators of your instance. It doesn't show who liked/ boosted a post but rather which posts received more interactions. I don't know if there's the possibility to choose only boosts but I don't think so.

You could always look at who favorited a post (it just doesn't always load right because favorites don't federate as well as boosts, but you can see the complete list if you open the post on the original server). I think some aspects of explore might be instance specific and maybe this could be changed?
