It took a long time for me to realise that how much activity you see associated with a post (replies, boosts, likes) varies depending on the instance you are on. Really striking example: same post viewed from here and from fosstodon.

Please don’t reply to explain it to me. I know why. Just showing an example.

Can I reply just to mention that @jonny created a #FetchAllReplies code that allows you to see all replies from any server, and he also made one to get the accurate boost & fav count! Fetch all replies is ready & working on our server, just waiting to be reviewed by the main Mastodon team :) and the boost count will be part of the upcoming Mastodon update!!

(Check the hashtag for more info but this post summarizes it: neuromatch.social/@jonny/11335…)

@elduvelle

Yep! The counts PR is already merged upstream so you should see that on next update, fetch all replies is next.

@jonny @elduvelle is it working? I see 186 boosts on that post here and 2.9K on toot.cafe. maybe it just gets updated but on a queue?
in reply to El Duvelle

no we haven't deployed it yet and i also need to update fetch all replies to fetch the root post as well (otherwise all the posts in the tree except the root will have accurate counts, which i think is sort of funny), will do that as soon as i have a second

@elduvelle @jonny Illustrating the problem: I had not seen your reply (from 10 hours ago!) when I wrote mine a few minutes ago.
