Idea: #Linux installation tutorial for #Windows users who want to try it as a dual-boot?

Say, I would live-post the steps as I am doing it on an old laptop, with #ZorinOS (I installed it once and it works fine). People could try and do it at the same time.
I am a Linux newbie but I would count on others here to provide tips if something is not working...
What do you think? 👀

Notes:

  • This wouldn't be for MacOS users because I don't have a Mac
  • If anyone would like to do the same for another Linux distribution, they could propose that below
  • info on ZorinOS: zorin.com/os/
  • nice video from a youtuber trying ZorinOS: m.youtube.com/watch?v=N1H0a3D8…

  • I'd be in as a Win user, Linux newbie (to install) (11%, 2 votes)
  • I'd be in as a Linux pro (to help) (41%, 7 votes)
  • I'd be in but just as an observer / MacOS user (35%, 6 votes)
  • I wouldn't be in (11%, 2 votes)

Great. But why? There enough Linux installation tutorials out there. And anyone starting with the mainstream distros like Fedora/Ubuntu should have no problems using the GUI installers. I suspect the tutorial that is needed is not how to install Linux, but rather how to install anything that wasn’t already there when you bought your computer.

@vartak Why? Good question! Because I know that many Windows users out there might want to install Linux, but they may never actually do it. Because they can't find the time, might be scared that it won't work, or simply can't be bothered.

Having someone else do it as the same time as you, and being able to ask real-time questions if you get stuck, can make a huge difference in terms of your motivation to actually do it.

Hmm, we have quite a bunch of Linux-pros motivated to help (thank you!) but not many linux-newbies interested it seems..

well, my younger kid has promised me a working Linux install for Christmas this year

maybe your expert collective would like to offer that to people in their lives

@sarae that would definitely be a great thing to do. I am no expert but might try to do that with some family members.. Last time I tried to install Linux Mint on one of their old laptops and it didn't work, but now I think I know why so I might try again!
