Not exactly true from what i've read. I believe it is safe to store a backup on a samsung ssd for multiple years. I haven't found any hard evidence either way. But I suspect it would be well publicized if people commonly lost their ssd backup stored for a few years.

"Going to prison for three to five years with only a slim chance of parole? Maybe back up to a hard drive first, or have your cousin switch your machine on now and then for safety’s sake."
