Sometime at the beginning of December, all of a sudden, traffic to and from my little single-user instance dropped to nil. The Federated Timeline, which used to fly by much too quickly, now barely moves at all.

I've checked my relays - both of them state they're running fine and no filtering to me or my instance.

I've kept my code up to date - no security issues with my instance that I am aware of.

So I need to ask the questions:
1) Is the badplace thing back?
2) Have my disagreements in discussions with other admins over whether moderation should be global or local landed me on some other "naughty list" I am unaware of? If so, what's this one called?
3) Has the way smaller instances interact with the greater Fediverse changed in some way I missed?

Thanks in advance for any light you all may be able to shed on this issue.

This reached my single user instance, so traffic seems to be getting out of your instance okay.

@mookie With that said, there are a lot of ddns.net instances and if larger instances decided to block that top level domain name, yours would be blocked too.

@paul @mookie

That's a fair observation. One of these days I'll get myself a "real" domain name.. but for now, while I'm making less than $20/hr US, this will have to do.

@paul

Have you tried signing up on the larger instances (mastodon.social, mstdn.social and infosec.exchange come to mind) to follow yourself and send test messages? That's a large drop in traffic, so if one of the larger instances defederated you, that could be it.

Infosec.exchange is one of my relays, now, yes. The other two I have not, no. I'll look for it. Thanks.

FWIW: as @mookie (who I follow) replied to you (who I don’t follow) your post also reached my single-user instance.

Or you refer to the fact that you and I literally follow each other on every Fediverse service ever built in a criss-cross-pattern that NASA is still trying to figure out? 😆

Personally I think NASA still are 3 accounts behind on where you currently are active.
