Took a quick look at my monthly expenses, and it’s not looking great. My #PeerTube instance @spectra is getting into the $400 per month range, accounting for overages in Object Storage and Network transfer.

My first thought is that it may be time to look at more sustainable hosting options. Alternatively , I might have to start setting caps on how much storage any account can use before being required to pay for more. Neither prospect feels great. 😞

The community has been amazing for monthly donations, but our rate of growth has rapidly outpaced contributions…

Hey Sean, as you probably know, I’m organizing a Federated Video Co-op—and one of our key goals is to host a PeerTube server.

Everything you said confirms my rationale for aiming towards financial sustainability, and building a mechanism towards distributing costs among a group instead of one individual shouldering the responsibility—later having to shut down the server because costs exceed ability to pay.

I know you’ve been running spectra.video for awhile. We should chat.
