WRONG: It's rooted in the 1953 US-sponsored overthrow of #Iran's democratic government and installation of the hated Shah, which led directly to the 1978 Islamic revolution and intense (and justified) hostility to the US.

the mistrust goes back way further than 47 years and the U.S. started it.

47 years? 🙄

The US, with UK connivance, overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran in 1953 and installed a puppet regime led by the Shah. The principal author was Miles Copeland of the CIA. The Shah's secret police, the Savak, were substantially responsible for the Iranian revolution because of their brutal repression.
