So here's the problem.

Okay, 200,000 people have dropped WaPo because of Jeff Bezos's cowardice. They voted with their wallets, and now WaPo is financially impacted.

In an ideal world, they will try to earn back these subscribers by rebuilding trust, perhaps Bezos stepping down.

But what will actually happen is that they'll just pivot hard to the right, knowing that the left they lost is too hard/expensive to earn back, and the right is easy.

They essentially "fall through" to the right as a backup plan. Then once they've grown their right-wing audience, they will operate in perpetual fear of alienating them and having no backup audience, so they will shift further and further right as they kill more stories that would gather a left-leaning audience.

Every article that's anti-left in some way will be linked by the right prefixed with "even the Washington Post says" to imply they were and are liberal.

what's the problem? Instead of cowing down to fascists discretely and keeping their clout and liberal readership, they will be forced to pivot right and compete with Fox for mouth breathers who get their news from Joe Rogan for free? There are only so many My Pillow ads to go around. Let the Post bleed out I say.
