Personally I freaking hate IP in the gaming industry

Like always, big corpo's have patents on the most simple things and even game mechanics..

I understand that copying 1-1 isn't a good thing but at current state they're gonna even patent a color, number or letter

He, X? Patent my ass 😘

Did you know that until november 2015, Bandai Namco held the patent for "auxiliary games", basically minigames, during loading screens

It's now expired but hardly anyone uses it today and guess why

There have been patents issued for some utterly ridiculous things, over the years.

Obviousness, prior art, Simply Not Allowed (algorithms)... but they still get through.

I'm kind of glad that the algorithm patent that was submitted with my name on it got refused for prior art.

Because everyone skips the load screens?
No, that won't be it. Hmmm?
'Cos minigames aren't big any more?
No, it's in the name! They weren't big from the get go. Umm..
Because All games are mini games now coz of dlc?
Yeah nah?
Awww, just tell us....

Pantone has had patents on certain CMYK and RGB values for decades. I wish I was making that up but there are colors you legally cannot use unless you have licensed them.

being told that the feature in development using the most obvious UI has to be redesigned because of a patent sucks.Making the UI worse so we do not get sued is not what I want to be about!

I get copyrighting images, makes complete sense. But patenting game mechanics should fall under the “obvious” portion and never be allowed.
