It feels like some folks think democracy amounts to doing whatever the majority of those who voted in an election want. That’s not democracy. That’s tyranny of the majority.
If your society votes to start eating babies, you don’t start eating babies. You protect your babies with your life and you fight tooth and nail until you rid your society of baby eaters so you don’t end up as a nation of cannibals.

Was just thinking from your post about centrism, maybe we need two different words for this concept?
The old style centrism (as seen after WW2) might be a democratic socialist government that allows free market companies to exist but also provides a strong state-owned safety net to its citizens.
The new style centrism today seems to be politicians who sway in the political wind doing whatever is popular at a particular moment.
These things are totally opposite: one has long term policies they implement to make people's lives better, the other is a selfish career coward with no principles.

Otherwise your solution for ‘the tyranny of the majority’ is a ‘tyranny of the minority’.
In an odd way, that’s what kind of what representative democratic is. We don’t choose on issues, we choose the ppl we trust to decide.

Another issue with the US democracy is that different parts of our population despise each other. So resources are spent just screwing with different parts of the population, resulting in a bad outcome for everyone. Currently, there is no "unified voice" of the people.

3. You may fuck off now with your “your body, my choice” crap.
