Thank you for all your great feedback to my article about #PeerTube. I plan to use it extensively for the next 2 weeks to write a follow-up post... and bring you interviews with PeerTube creators.

If you have any tips about how to improve the experience on mobile, I'm all ears! (Aside from using it in my mobile browser, that is).

I mentioned this before, but worth putting it out there again.

#p2play which unfortunately is only on #android deserves a mention, it's just received another update which makes it almost perfect:).

Less confusing, full functionality and what you'd expect from youtube like player.

@lps thank you! Is it only on F-Droid or also in the regular Play Store?

unfortunately I don't think it's available on the playstore which is likely why it doesn't have the same limitations as the official app, for example, no limitation on the instances you can connect to.

It may be worthwhile to reach out to the developer @agosto182 to get some insight 🤷‍♂️

@lps thank you! I had installed / uninstalled f-droid yesterday... I will download it again for this. eager to try it out!

F-droid has a lot of interesting apps. I know it looks old, if you want, download #Droidify that has a more elegant interface.

Recomended apps from F-droid:

- Moshidon: For mastodon
- Localsend: For share files between local devices
- Newpipe: Player for youtube and peertube
- K9-mail or thunderbird: Email client
- Keyboards, maps, chat client and more. All of them open source :)

nice article, can you comment on some other people you liked the content of in PeerTube besides FediHost?
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

For those people who still want to use youtube, but also want to give a massive 'fuck you' to google.

May I suggest the open source grayjay available for android and windows desktop.

It's a way to watch videos from not only YT, but patreon, nebula as well as other services like soundcloud and so forth.

All open source, all free from ads and tracking.

Great article, Elena. I'm not sure if they share the same limitations, but there are third-party apps for Android available from the F-Droid store: P2Play (f-droid.org/packages/org.libre…), Thorium (f-droid.org/packages/net.schue…), and FediLab(f-droid.org/packages/fr.gouv.e…). Haven't used any (yet), but am eager to try.

I current post on YouTube, technical content. Should I cross post on PeerTube?
Doesn’t seem like I can do on mobile right?

@diogosnows PeerTube has the option of importing videos from YouTube. I haven't used it yet but I've seen screenshots of the feature.

Now if you want your videos to show up on the official mobile app, you would have to pick a PeerTube instance that is whitelisted. I'm exploring all this and doing research for the next two weeks...

I use #Fedilab for all my accounts including 2 #mastodon, #Friendica, #Pixelfed and #PeerTube.
It works manly ok, beside the known issues especially at pixelfeld, which I expect is more a server or protocol bug.
But fedilab supports much more accounts.
