DSA-backed candidates won two of seven U.S. House primaries and six of eight state legislative primaries in Tuesday's elections across Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, and Washington.
U.S. House winners: Rashida Tlaib cruised to re-nomination in Michigan's 12th District. Donavan McKinney unseated incumbent Shri Thanedar 51.9%-48.1% in Michigan's 13th, making Thanedar the 8th House incumbent to lose a primary this year. That ties 2020 for the second-most House incumbents defeated in primaries.
The losses: Former Rep. Cori Bush fell short in her rematch against Rep. Wesley Bell in Missouri's 1st District. Four other DSA-endorsed House candidates also lost.
State legislative wins: Jimmy Lappe (MO HD-81), Isaiah Harris (KS HD-3), Shaun Scott (WA HD-43), Jaelynn Scott (WA HD-37), Dylan Wegela (MI HD-26), Chris Gilmer-Hill (MI HD-8).
Mixed night, but McKinney's upset is the headline. He took down a self-funding millionaire incumbent who had AIPAC backing and a 10-to-1 cash advantage, running on Medicare for All and ending military aid to Israel.
