Ooo, keep some peanuts in the shell handy. You'll make friends with those Corvids in no-time. Jays can recognize specific people, even if wearing a hat and coat. They will spot you when you are out and if you make peanut feeding a consistent time of day, they will set their clocks to come by. My dad would take peanuts and wedge some in the bark of a tree and watch them get picked off one by one.
Oh and another thing. Both Jays and Crows, if presented with two or more peanuts in the shell, will pick them up to weigh them and fly off with the heaviest one. Jays have a pouch in their throat so they can take two peanuts at a time.
