Counterintuitively, this is actually a point of hope - because this has been the case literally since the dark ages & yet still, we have managed to make continued progress on behalf of humanity against the explict, well-funded interests of those forces.

They can slow us down, but they simply cannot stop us. This is a fact of history.

Indeed.. the creepy thing though is the difference in resources between the richest and the poorest seems to be exponentially increasing. You couldn't have had an equivalent to Elon Musk in the dark ages - there would have been no physically-possible way to accumulate that much wealth.

@elduvelle No - but even back then it was possible to amass enough wealth for "a king's ransom", i.e. enough money to buy a whole country. It's not like the rich were not a formidable adversary, even then.
