I put some water in a tiny cup, freeze it. When it is frozen, I put a coin on top, and leave it in the freezer.

When I return from vacation, I check the cup. if the coin is still on top, it means my freezer stayed cold while I was gone.

If the coin has sunk to the bottom of the ice cup, it means the power went out long enough to thaw, thus warning me that my freezer foods may have spoiled.

It's a good tip but for me it's when the power trips the breaker so doesn't come back is what I'm worried about, as happened last summer 2 weeks before we returned home!
There are special auto rearming breakers for these, but longer power outages they can't help with
