I see so many posts lamenting the fact that people are moving from Twitter to Bluesky instead of Mastodon, but I think that’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the Fediverse and what it stands for.
People who want ‘just another platform’ will not find what they’re looking for here because Mastodon is not one.
By comparing Mastodon to other platforms specifically competing for Twitter’s user-base, we are trying to make Mastodon something it’s not; a stage where people shout at the world.
That concept is so fundamentally opposed to the philosophy of Mastodon and the greater Fediverse that I struggle to even make the comparison.
Mastodon is a tool to form communities where genuine conversations are actually given a chance and where small corners of the internet can blossom into something truly wonderful.
I think that is something worth holding on to, even if it means some people decide to join Bluesky instead.
