What to do if you accidentally post or boost something fake and it gets a bunch of boosts before you find out? Do you edit the toot or delete it?

On Twitter we had a decent system. You screenshot your own tweet and post a new message with the screenshot saying it was fake. Then you delete the original. This way, you have a mea culpa, you inform people of the fake and you stop the spread.

Since we can edit here does that change things? Do edits always propagate fast enough?

you can unboost it but I'm not sure what does that do exactly - hopefully delete your boost and everything (boosts etc.) that relates to it?
