Don’t worry, it’s European.

Needless to say, unless you’re a complete and utter fool, do not join W and warn your friends not to join W either.

it's a good thing no official and commercial databases have ever leaked with millions of official documents of real people, that could allow bad actors to register as "real verified humans"

@Julianoe Thank goodness the Dutch didn’t have a census the Nazis could use to murder three quarters of the Jewish population in that country.
in reply to Aral Balkan

@Julianoe I'm pretty sure this is the exact reason they want age verification in the first place

It’s just Bluesky wearing a disguise.

Euro-washing, sovereignty-washing.. Cashing in on fear.

still superior to anything meta controls as idiotic as as that sounds. It’s all legalized theft just like ai is.

Since I read the info on the verification process, supposedly fully on device, and user name options (real or something else) for now I tend to give it the benefit of doubt. It might even reduce malicious fake accounts.
@lain
in reply to Grey Pilgrim

@EregLoch Excellent, the benefit of the doubt is all they need right now. Thank you for your service.

Assuming W is only for EU citizens, how else could they verify your citizenship?
(I still would not do this)

Matter of time as this copycat of BlueSky, built on American protocol, will have data leak.

Just because something presents itself as "European" doesn't mean it's safe. It's better to stick with fediverse as the network is more trustworthy and built by the people for the people.

- I launched a new european social network
- New social network, or the modal foundation trying to peddle the same fucking atproto relay again?
- The modal foundation again

on a somewhat related note LinkedIn wants me to upload my ID to be able to close my account because I do not agree with uploading my ID to continue to use it… and you need an unblocked account to contact the DPO to exercise your rights which implies… uploading the ID. Kind of a catch-22
in reply to Steve F.

@freci Same with Twitter. So my account there still exists but has been abandoned for some years.
in reply to Aral Balkan

@TimWardCam @freci @noybeu They don’t?
The bastards won’t let me see it! And they certainly don’t include it in search results!
in reply to Aral Balkan

I honestly don't care about digital ID. If you are a normal computer user, you just create two of them:
One where you use your normie things, pretty irrelevant.
Another where you're a Nigerian Prince shit posting for days.
Or even a VPN redirected to Russia or China, where they couldn't care less about what you post in globohomo sites.
in reply to Aral Balkan

Look. No matter who's running it, or where it's hosted, if it's run for profit, you're the product. It's as simple as that.
Just stay the fuck away from it.

I might not be able to get my passport because of the positive test results. Can I get European passports while I'm here in #Gaza? 😄🍉🇵🇸

in reply to Aral Balkan

The same one that turned out to just be rebranded Bluesky? So the one where scans of your passport would be stored using American protocols, if not on American servers?
in reply to Aral Balkan

It’s technically not spyware when you *voluntarily* hand over your passport. 🤡

What could possibly go wrong???

in reply to Aral Balkan

As a privacy-minded person, I only give my face to trusted and legal EU-based face collectors, not to the evil wicked illegal untrusted US- or China-based face collectors.

The EU has laws, unlike the US or China, which means faces may only collected for good purposes, not for evil ones.

I am a very intelligent. 🙂

@lain I'm going to start using "decentralized" as a meaningless superlative like this. Man, we made some completely decentralized nachos last night!
@lain
in reply to Garden Punk

@Capheind Thing is, those nachos were likely still more decentralised than whatever the fuck this is.
