My point is that work doesn't kill you, but cigarettes do. Work may not be fun, but it doesn't usually make you die young after years of miserable suffering.

@David It was a joke of course.

Still there is this thinking I quite often observe in people working unrewarding, harmful or just poor jobs. They literally see it like this - their time at work is lost from their life, they cut these hours of life (and maybe a chunk of their health too) in exchange for a bit of money. So when you talk to them about harm of smoking, alcohol, bad food they react to it as not significant. It gives them a bit of joy and as for the harm... it is like telling a soaked man running though heavy rain not to step in puddles because his shoes would get wetter.

Myself I don't smoke and hate what tobacco industry did. Good riddance, it is a pity it took so long.
