How do you know you may be a little too invested in the Fediverse? Last night I had a dream I was enthusiastically recommending @phanpy to someone... πŸ˜†

Dreams aside, #Phanpy is truly the best and if you haven't tried out its Catch Up feature, you're missing out BIG TIME. Thank you @cheeaun for your brilliant work on it!

@runoutgroover I keep referring to it as the BEST social media client ever... Catch Up is sooooo good... I love that I can click on photos of my Fedi friends to see what they have posted lately... and filter out boosts and replies so I can see only original posts

@phanpy @cheeaun

in reply to amlor

@amlor yes it does! I have both my Mastodon and my GoToSocial accounts in Phanpy. Heck back in the day I even had Pixelfed on there. Anything compatible with the Mastodon API works.

I'm using Phanpy on a daily basis since years... but what is this "catch up" feature? I think I'm missing something huge!
in reply to Grégory Gutierez 🌻🎸🐧

@Greguti whaaaaaat?!? You HAVE to try it GrΓ©gory.

It's the second item in the menu. You click on it, select the span of time you want to fetch posts from (say, 10 hours) and it will create an interface showing posts organized by the accounts you follow - their profile image is in a circle. You can check for example only original posts by people you follow organized in chronological order. I'm doing a terrible job at explaining succinctly how wonderful it is. Maybe I'll write an article about it

Just tried this, blew me away, uninstalled the Mastodon app from my #FairPhone and added the page as an app to my home screen. It feels like the most human friendly social media app I've ever used!

the boost carousel is peak feature, every time I use another client I miss it
in reply to Emeline Parizel

@emeline Emeline ! Phanpy is the web client I had recommended during our lunch back in 2024!

Anyway nice to read you and I hope this finds you well 😊

@phanpy @cheeaun

what a shame I hadn't taken notes πŸ˜… Happy to try it now and happier to read you 😊
I remember our lunch everytime I return back to that place.
Give me a sign and we meet there again 😁 (why the hell am I writing to you in English πŸ˜‚)

There's also a Phanpy version optimized for iOS github.com/matfantinel/iphanpy (no notification support, unfortunately) @phanpy @cheeaun
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

I switched to #Phanpy about a week ago after someone pointed out that you could view a user's actual posts with boosts filtered out. Definitely helpful in deciding whether or not to follow. I also love having boosts visibly separated out in my feed!

πŸ™‡β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‡β€β™‚οΈ glad to know it works in a dream too πŸ˜†

I only wish there was a native android app! The PWA ends up reloading when I open it more often than not and I lose my place. Literally, my only complaint.

Really love Phanpy, but sadly one thing pushed me back to the standard interface on desktop - emojis.

Phanpy's emoji picker only gives an instance's custom emojis, not standard ones.

Using Elena's post as an example, how did you post πŸ˜†? Is the mobile client different?

It may sound trivial, but over time it became annoying enough to stop me using Phanpy. πŸ˜”

A 2 year old unassigned request I found for this just lists impractical workarounds:

in reply to Ian Malcolm

@imalcolm I am also curious about the answer. That is precisely my first question at first use πŸ˜…
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

@emeline @imalcolm I generally encourage using the OS’ built-in emoji picker, which will work on any sites and any apps.

It would be worthwhile to spend a bit of time to figure out how to use them. The OS should support some sort of picker as they need to render them too, and the list of emojis need to be updated annually.
