Should Mastodon implement something along the lines of Bluesky's Starter Packs in a future version release?

Yes. But we don't need to call them "starter packs" - they're just public lists.
Twitter had that too, you could see 1) which lists you're on and 2) which lists someone is following (as long as they were public) and you could follow them. Great feature that is unfortunately absent on #Mastodon simply because the lists are private.

@elduvelle @slevelt @chris That would be a good first step! If we’re hashing out user stories, I’d prefer more options to fine tune. What if I don’t mind the person per sΓ© but don’t want to be on their list? I’ve also been put on lists where I just don’t belong (like β€œLondon people”).

Good point. Mastodon's Lists feature could evolve by including two options:

- Lists are currently private. There should be an option to make them public / sharable via a URL.

- Everyone should get an opt-in option in their Privacy settings to say "Allow my profile to be listed on Public lists"

That way it doesn't break the existing list functionality, but also allows people to not be included to lists that can be shared.

This does create a blanket opt-in vs opt-out functionality - but I think that would be okay for an initial version of public lists.

In future versions, you would probably implement more finite controls for those that want to be listed on public lists, but approve their listing / remove themselves from particular ones.

Of course, there is already a very active thread on Public / Sharable lists on the Mastodon GitHub:

I'm not saying this is good UX, but you can already kind of do this via "Settings => Import and Export => Import => Following list"
