I am sad that they left the prog rock path but I guess they needed some changes again. And yes, the new one is really good!

@derthomas For me Opeth has always been a prog metal band, not prog rock.

They have always been a bit special to me. I listened to some of their earliest stuff since Peter Lindgren was in the same year at RIT as one of my childhood friends. They sounded a bit like Maiden then :-).

Also Mikael Åkerfeldt grew up close to where I live now.

I think they are both great prog metal and prog rock (in the 2010s). I enjoyed all of what they did. I think in the end they are whatever Mikael wants to do.
