Fact Check: True - I am a 36 year aircraft mechanic and we once had an aircraft grounded for several days (a 727) because of reports from flight attendants seeing a rat on the aircraft in the galley area. The aircraft was searched for 3 days even going as far as one mechanic bringing his chiuahaha dog (brutus) on the aircraft to crawl into small areas and sniff around. We never found the rat and it was assumed that it departed the aircraft during those three days and was never seen again. The reason I was given for the three day very expensive grounding of the aircraft : It can chew through wires...

Not to mention that aircraft galleys have to have a health department certificate just like any restaurant.
