"Bluesky and Threads showed us very different visions for a post-X future"

Well, not really "very different". Nobody is talking about the truly different social media - The Fediverse and Mastodon, that is.

Really bugs me how Mastodon and the Fediverse in general keeps being kept out of the conversation just because they're not proprietary platforms.

I swear these media outlets are paid by big tech to ignore Mastodon.

At the end of the article:

"But Bluesky’s vision for an open-source decentralized platform is about much more than becoming the next big social media site."

Did I miss something? Or is the author confusing #Bluesky with #Mastodon?

By its very nature Mastodon is going to be left out of the conversation because there is no personality the conversation can tap to quote. The media and those that funnel resources into the media want to talk about power personalities that can be illustrated as competators, not a mass of little guys who control small pieces of a cooperative anarchy. Unfortunatley, it does draw in people who want to be part of the excitement or identify w the market pitch. I think Mastodon will be just fine and keep growing if our multitude of talented server masters stick to their guns and keep the federated process running and safe from attack ware. Bluesky may hitch a ride on the federation, but it's an owned creation thats suppose to make money for its owners, and likely to end up going the way of twitter and the FB corporations. We're probably better of not attracting media attention.

Let me quote @JohnMastodon, the founder of #Mastodon ;-) :

"News organizations that rely on user engagement and ads for monetization will always present a slanted view of Mastodon."

I'm fine with not being mentioned, less likelihood of having to fend off the bots and other personalities we don't like. Popularity is a double-edged sword after all and not all attention is good attention.
