Any recommendations for computer keyboards that are nice to type on and won't break straight away?

(Bonus points for low price as my budget is limited, and also if possible backlit keys as I sometimes need to work with lights dimmed.)

it's not "cheap" as such but I got a Keychron C2 recently and it's definitely very good, and at the lower end of the price scale for mechanical keyboards. Good value for money, definitely.

HP/Compaq SDM4700P. It's old but I do see them on sale online from $20 (used) to $60 (new). I swear once the apocalypse hits, it'll still work if you can find a working computer with a PS/2 port.

Maybe you could name more preferences? Do you like chiclet or classic keys, hard or soft press, clicky or silent? ⌨️

I'm happy with my Ducky, but it's not really a budget keyboard...

For years now I have been happy with my Sharkoon PureWriter RGB, which I bought on a budget. I believe they are still sold new.
Now that I think about it, I might buy another one myself, just in case the current one breaks at a point where I can't get this model anymore.

I took the leap into mechanical keyboards last year with a Keychron V6 Max. It felt indulgent but I type a lot and have been very happy with it. Feels like it will last forever.

"I sometimes need to work with lights dimmed" - yep, so annoying that dark on light keyboards are so hard to find these days. I need to replace mine soon, but all I see anywhere are light on dark keyboards. 😑

Misses out on your low price bonus, but I have two Das Keyboard keyboards, one is 7 years old the other 11 years old. Both still going strong. The 7 year old one has been my daily β€œwork” keyboard for as long as I’ve owned it. The 11 year old one is at home and gets used less often and not for as long. I’d replace either with newer versions in a instant if they broke, but I can still get spare parts for them (everything for the ada’s Keyboard 4, and at least key switches and keycaps for the older one) so I suspect they could both outlive me.
