@blogdiva β€œIn 1950, a group of Phoenix women, aware of the urgency of funding shortages at the Maricopa County March of Dimes, created the first Mothers' March on Polio establishing the model that the national foundation would adopt and spread nationwide starting in 1951.” By 1955, $250,000 came to the March of Dimes, funding research on polio then on birth defects and prenatal conditions. ~My siblings and I gladly got those vaccines and sugar cube vaccines back then.

What a great find! Marilyn Munroe promoting the polio vaccine! Thx so much for sharing this. There are still so many people alive who have personal memories of life before & after the polio vaccines. I too had a schoolmate who had been permanently affected by polio, & remember the excitement of getting the vaccine in my small mining town in the early 1960s - what a massive effort to roll it out to the entire population, hats off to all those who were a part of that.
Thx again. πŸ™‚
