This is an interesting article on why Harris may have lost the election. Depending on who you are/were and what beliefs you already had, Harris is either a woke communist or a neoliberal cop.

I think stuff like this also raises the question of how much #disinformation progressives and leftists have absorbed. Mostly it’s not the same disinformation as right-wingers get, although right-wing narratives are so pervasive in the U.S. that most people pick them up.

ties in to the conspiracy theories asking how democrats won in local elections in places that voted for Trump. It does feel like democrats couldn't vote for Harris because she was "a neoliberal cop" or because of her support for Israel.

So attacking the person (whether Biden or Harris) rather than the policy has been proven to be an effective strategy.

@craignicol "So attacking the person (whether Biden or Harris) rather than the policy has been proven to be an effective strategy." <- am I mistaken for thinking that delivering arls to Israel is a matter of policy, not of person?
in reply to FelisCatus

@FelisCatus I definitely think shipping arms to Israel is bad and should be stopped.

But blaming Harris for that when Trump and Netanyahu have had direct meetings throughout the year and will likely lead to more support for Israel does feel like hypocrisy. Harris at least has a respect for the role of law.

Trump didn't make Israel policy a battleground.

in reply to craignicol

@craignicol No, it's not hypocrisy. Trump doing bad things doesn't mean Harris and Biden get to do bad things too and not be criticised for it. That's called whataboutism.
in reply to FelisCatus

@FelisCatus both sides bad, and definitely want to see more world leaders lining up with South Africa and Ireland re Israel. Trump is objectively worse, but need to hold all to account.

@craignicol Interest wrinkle with that: consider states like Wisconsin where Trump won but Democratic incumbent Senator Tammy Baldwin also won.

Trump got more votes in Wisconsin than Baldwin did but she won! So a lot of people filled out the top of the ticket and left the rest blank.

That happened in other states too.

@craignicol I know Trump was trying to court low-propensity voters and the idea that he succeeded to some extent and turned out people like that who voted for him but didn’t bother with the rest of the ballot seems pretty plausible.

that makes sense. Also explains the places that reinforced abortion rights whilst voting Trump.
in reply to craignicol

@craignicol No that’s just because abortion bans are deeply unpopular even with most conservative voters. It seems that support for reproductive rights doesn’t actually correlate with partisanship.

I'd imagine if that were the case, the numbers would be fairly easy to get - big difference in turnout between presidential and other ballots across regions.
