Can I reply just to mention that @jonny created a #FetchAllReplies code that allows you to see all replies from any server, and he also made one to get the accurate boost & fav count! Fetch all replies is ready & working on our server, just waiting to be reviewed by the main Mastodon team :) and the boost count will be part of the upcoming Mastodon update!!

(Check the hashtag for more info but this post summarizes it: neuromatch.social/@jonny/11335…)

(edited for more accurate info)

You haven't witnessed the racist and abusive behaviour because, currently, Mastodon users cannot see all the replies of any given post, due to the way Mastodon works.

A solution has been implemented on our instance, and I can now see all replies to a post if I want and it makes a huge difference! I can see the spam, the nasty posts, and the well-intentioned users just repeating the same thing over and over again because they can't see that someone else already said it.

We hope that it will be incorporated to the main mastodon code asap (neuromatch.social/@jonny/11349… by @jonny).

i came across this post on bsky about how this person was feeling like how conversations felt disconnected and sparse on the fediverse, and as someone who has seen how it's not but with great effort i was like i know, and then in that thread someone was like "yeah it sucks and the saving grace is that someone is trying to do #FetchAllReplies" bsky.app/profile/sendai.bsky.s…

THIS is the distributed moderation case for #FetchAllReplies - you can only see them because we have fetch all replies deployed on this instance. because you are probably one of the only people (on a mastodon instance, GTS also does this) that can see it aside from people on mastodon.social, you are the first to report it. this is EXACTLY what every person of color that has faced abuse on the fedi has been saying about the importance of other people being able to see the abuse. because you can forward the report to other instances, you make it visible to everyone and the problem gets dealt with way faster and it's better for everyone. maybe the person they replied to doesn't even see it before it gets dealt with because everyone can watch out for it.

brb i'm gonna go address the one review comment i've gotten to keep pushing that along
