Wow — Spokane did an evacuation drill back in April! That might help explain why, even though the recent fire was devastating in the number of homes and other buildings destroyed, it seems there was no loss of life and a hospital was able to do a successful evacuation.
"The city learned about evacuation bottlenecks, the types of warnings and directions that were most effective and other challenges. The exercise also encouraged residents to sign up for emergency alerts, familiarize themselves with evacuation routes and think through critical decisions before an actual wildfire threatened their homes."
