⚛️ The first nuclear plant restart in US history is underway in Michigan - but it's way behind schedule.

Holtec bought the Palisades plant after it shut down in 2022 and has been trying to bring it back online ever since. The 54-year-old reactor just cleared its major renovations, with about 5,000 routine maintenance items left on the checklist. Holtec says that's comparable to a standard refueling outage.

The catch: they originally planned to restart in late 2025, then early 2026, then February 2026. All missed. As of mid-July, still no firm date - though the CEO says he expects it to happen this year.

If successful, it would set a precedent for other shuttered plants considering restarts, including the former Three Mile Island site (now backed by Microsoft) and Google's deal to restart a plant in Iowa.
