I'm not trying to pick out the best or the most significant for a wide swath of the population. I'm reflecting on my decades of life & choosing one tune. If the years were reduced to a song-length montage these are the songs I would currently use for each decade:

2000s — Modest Mouse Float On
1990s — The Breeders Cannonball
1980s — Prince When Doves Cry
1970s — Gloria Gaynor I Will Survive
