Tales From The Riverbank
Mid-February, and a gorgeous day for following the river as far as we can through the snow-drifts. The main roads have been cleared and the conditions are good albeit with temperatures well below zero C.
FnjΓ³skadalur, an agricultural valley in Γingeyjarsveit north-eastern #Iceland. FnjΓ³skΓ‘, a popular salmon angling river and the longest spring-fed river in Iceland, runs through it.

The Bonny, Bonny Banks
Mid-July, and the #Scottish woodlands are gloriously green. The high mountain crags are showing their rocky teeth, and a lovely waterfall drops between the trees.
Loch Lomond (Loch Laomainn in Sc. Gaelic) is a freshwater loch which is considered the boundary between the lowlands of Central #Scotland and the Highlands.

Long time no cloud!
The bridge made it really hard to balance this one. But I think it turned out fine?

Volcanic waters
Mid-March, and Seljalandsfoss is still dropping from EyjafjallajΓΆkull even though the temperature has been consistently below zero C for days.
Near the left side is GljΓΊfrabΓΊi, the waterfall behind a large boulder and within a canyon.

Sunset Serenity
Beautiful Beauly Firth, near Inverness in north-eastern #Scotland at 9pm on a lovely July day.
In the distance is Ben Wyvis (meaning "Awesome Mountain"), topped by Glas Leathad MΓ²r, a Munro of 1046 metres/3432 feet.

Summer Stillness
Stopping at the roadside to enjoy the tranquillity; the soft breeze rippling the water, the sound of distant birds, the wildflowers in the muddy meadows.

The Bannister Game
Caramel's favourite game is waiting on the stairs for me to tap the outside of the wood, so he can try to catch me. He's such a gentle old boy, he never uses his claws, just soft paws, until he gets a bit excited and forgets. Me saying "ow" in the right tone of voice is enough to make him remember. Such a sweetheart.

Hey everyone!
Mo here, onward and upwards as is always the hope and desire.
I'm a fairly atypical Granny living in #Scotland, with an #Iceland photography obsession. I used to do games graphics many moons ago. I love weather photography, long slow walks getting slower due to stuff, my wonderful sons and my lovely patient partner.
Here's a drop-dead gorgeous shot to start this. LΓ³magnΓΊpur in southern #Iceland.

If I were someone who shares their life on social media, this would be a "dear Mastodon" post. But I'm not soβ¦a photo!

Liquid Refreshment
February, and this gorgeous waterfall with its turquoise water and the surrounding black basalt column teeth is a true jewel of nature. The drive and hike were long and difficult but worth every step through knee-deep snow to reach this beauty.

Early Flight
A storm was brewing and this would be the only chance to bring in surface mail and essentials before the strong winds took hold of the entire area. It was already gusting strongly. Watching the pilots complete this landing on a small airstrip surrounded by the water of Pollurinn was tense, to say the least.

Queen Of Icelandic Mountains
This is HerΓ°ubreiΓ°, literally "broad-shouldered," a steep-sided volcano formed when lava erupted through thick ice.
Tuyas like this are rare worldwide, only found in areas covered by glaciers and with active volcanism at the same time.
At 1,682 meters (5518β) HerΓ°ubreiΓ° is the 6th tallest peak in Iceland and is called the "national mountain."

Uninhabited
Across the fjord is Iceland's northernmost peninsula which has been protected as Hornstrandir Nature Reserve since 1975, haven for Arctic fox and sea-birds. With a strong sense of remoteness, lack of infrastructure and unmatched tranquillity, to simply stand and be is a feast for the senses.

Blue Shadows
Mid-February and another lovely cold but clear day in north-western #iceland
This is Reykjafoss at just after midday, the sunlight almost from the south hardly warming its frozen cascades.
A beautiful and peaceful place.
When I took this shot it was my partner's birthday and mine would be tomorrow, so we're celebrating our special days with a long and relaxed holiday driving around Iceland.

Red Sky At Night...
September 2014, and the Holuhraun eruption of BΓ‘rΓ°arbunga is well under way. We stopped for the night at a farm to the south of VatnajΓΆkull glacier, and the eruption plume filled the sky.
At 18:45 when the sun set, the afterglow caused by volcanic ejecta - oxides of sulphur and thin clouds of tiny sulphuric acid droplets lofted into the stratosphere - yielded lurid but beautiful colours.

Wilderness
A clear day in mid-November and we're crossing JΓΆkuldalsheiΓ°i.
The Central Highland of #Iceland covers most of the interior of the country. It's situated primarily above 300 meters (1000 feet) and is uninhabitable. The soil is mostly volcanic ash, the rivers don't have bridges, and the terrain is filled with basalt mountains and lava fields.
It's also extremely beautiful, albeit in a desolate way. No wonder NASA trained astronauts here.
"Youth in Contemplation"
I donβt know if itβs because of the room, the soft light, or his face, but this really gives me a almost oil painting feeling.
