That’s one expensive joke! I would like to believe that the mass protests it will trigger will be worth every cent but most #academics are seemingly affected by a highly persistent case of Stockholm syndrome so I fear it may be wasted…

A fellow #postdoc said she'd **Never** publish in Elsevier or MPDI even with waived APCs. She'd rather leave her work as a #preprint in perpetuity than publish with them. It got me wondering:

1. Do other #academics follow similar publishing embargoes?

2. Can such individual actions impact these publishing giants in any meaningful way?

Edit: at first I thought this must be a prank played on the editors, but as several people have pointed out in the replies, you can read the text as a satire of real problems in the medical profession, so maybe the editors were in on the joke.

In it she argues for a new perspective on openness "conceptualized not as primarily about sharing resources but rather as primarily fostering meaningful communication between the humans involved in research".
