Forestry workers fell a 40ft Sitka spruce tree in Northumberland’s Kielder forest before it makes the 330-mile journey south to Westminster. The spruce was selected from Kielder forest’s 150 million trees to stand at the foot of Big Ben in Parliament Square this Christmas.
