A French speaker asked me what the translation of canicule, I said we use the same word, bit a colleague corrected me said no, it was heatwave.

I agree heatwave is a good translation, but I thought in UK, at least, they'd started to use the word canicule to give the situation more gravitas. Anyone out there agree?
