Aug 14, Mexico City.
I'm super tired after a great day. Woke spontaneously, happily, early. It's been a long time since that happened. My pastry shop was packed & whenever possible I use lines as an indicator of when to be places. I left the pre work crowd to their pastries & made an early grocery run. Then went back for wonderful pastries with no line. Transit adventures. Chapultepec park. Museo Tamayo (contemporary art, loved it! I decided to check my bag including my phone as a break so I have no pics). Lunch in the park. Got a shave and haircut (so-so but happy to be lighter). I packed a frozen water bottle in the morning; that paid off all day! (Previous days my purchased water would warm before I finished so I came up with this idea & loved it. Put in another one waiting for tomorrow. Yes I know that double walled travel bottles solve this problem but I keep deciding that I don't need them. It's a whole thing to be explained elsewhere. I just don't want one so far. Since tap water isn't potable here I have to buy bottled water anyway.) I boarded a crowded bus moments before the sky opened up. Heavy downpour for quite a long time, so long in fact that I rode the bus past my stop. Kept recalculating what to do. Got off bus and ran into a shop. Quickly got bored. Took the bus again in the reverse direction, back into town, exited at a stop with the shortest walk to a restaurant. Had dinner watching the rain. Deep puddles in Mexico City can be terrifying, particularly when vehicles turn those puddles into a crashing waves of water. Phew so glad I kept relatively dry. Thankful for the quality hooded rain jacket I bought, lightweight & collapsible. After my meal the rain had stopped and I took the same bus back again. Amazing walk through Tlatelolco ruins & outdoor art to my Airbnb. Right now is the worst part of the day. My pain increases at night with nothing to do to distract, I need rest & find it hard to get. Oh and there's an extremely loud unending beat on this Friday night that started about midnight. I can't imagine how loud it must be to be wherever it's originating considering how much it's disturbing me in my room with windows closed and thick curtains drawn. I don't anticipate sleep any time soon & simply hope that I don't lose my mind or become aggro. Sigh. I know I'm old but such a high volume level just isn't healthy. I'm a tinnitus sufferer since my 20s, with no idea what causes it. I certainly spent time in loud clubs.
