#Syria now faces a huge challenge: putting back together a country divided by 13 years of civil war and a half-century of brutal dictatorship. The rebels are themselves significantly divided.

"The Syrian example shows that #Russia can be kicked out and will go home. The Baltics were right – the West is strong enough to win. We don't need to fear "the Bear" in #Ukraine or anywhere else he is causing chaos."

The absolute horrors of the Assad regime exemplified by Saydnaya prison. Many prisoners are not freed yet bcs the rebels cannot get to them as they are 3 floors underground. #Syria

The moment women and children were released by Syrian rebels from Assad’s #Saydnaya prison. This is really emotional. They are clearly scared of what’s happening so the rebels are telling them “don’t be afraid, we are the revolutionaries. Go get out.”

watching with interest and trepidation. The messaging on this has been appalling. All of a sudden it went from describing this offensive as "Islamist" to talking about "rebel forces" and the "fall of the regime".

Language matters.

The pessimist in me is very concerned we are about to witness the birth of a new Afghanistan. But being optimistic, maybe Kurds will get a safe space, finally, and maybe it won't all fall apart.

What happens to women and girls in conflict must be exposed

It doesn’t matter if perpetrators call themselves 'freedom fighters"

Every time women and girls are carted off like property, my heart breaks—because we know the horrors that await them

R*pe and sex slavery must be universally condemned, not just with words but with severe and uncompromising penalties worldwide
