The Line in Saudi Arabia is such a cool idea... and the western arrogance that i read so often is quite worrying for me. I guess it is yet again a future leading project that is laughed on by ppl that laugh at anything that is exploring the future... but let me explain:
The Line is a extendable project that could house half of Saudi Arabia's citizens while providing an almost complete solution to the urban problems and those that will arise with climate change. Saudi Arabia will become inhospitable quite fast due to climate change, they already reach temps of 52.0 °C. As a result The Line is planed to be build in such a way that one does not need to leave the building. This thing is self contained as much as feasible possible. There are no cars, only a central moving system. And in the bigger neom project 100% of the water will be recycled.
Saudi Arabia does not care if it is feasible to build it, because it is a experimental test balloon how to build a climate doomsday bunker that will inevitable be needed there since the current car centric urban environ

Although the numbers seen here might appear pessimistic to some, I’ll remind you that in the past, nearly all climate reports from the UN have been overly *optimistic* — failing to anticipate both the stubborn intransigence of our capitalist rulers and the unpredictably extreme response of Earth’s ecosystem to rapidly increasing levels of atmospheric carbon.
So I’d advise taking these temperature predictions with a grain of salt. It could turn out even worse than they expect… ________________________________

The latest UNEP report finds that human emissions of greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, nitrous oxide) reached a record 57.1bn tonnes in 2023. Global emissions grew 1.3% last year compared with 2022 levels – a rate notably faster than that over the prior decade.
Since the previous report, there have not been any notable changes in country pledges or policies – and global emissions continued to grow. This means that the emissions gap is wider than it was last year and the world is further off track from its climate goals.
The report states that a continuation of current policies would result in a 100% chance of exceeding 1.5C, a 97% chance of exceeding 2C and a 37% chance of exceeding 3C by 2100.
As the report notes, these numbers do *not* include many of the climate-related impacts on greenhouse gas emissions that are not a result of direct human interventions – such as the catastrophic Canadian wildfires in 2023. The ability of the biosphere to absorb a portion of human emissions is broadly expected to weaken under scenarios where the world does not rapidly reduce emissions.
Ultimately, the report highlights that the growing emissions gap reflects a lack of political will by countries to address emissions, rather than any fundamental constraint on the world’s ability to rapidly mitigate. ________________________________

Degrowth does NOT mean condemning millions of people in the Global South to starvation.
Degrowth is about social justice and climate justice. This means allowing the Global South to achieve something close to parity with a Global North that is sharply reducing consumption and energy use.
On the other hand, a continuation of endless economic growth, i.e. Business As Usual, DOES mean condemning hundreds of millions in the Global South to eco-climate disasters, drought, and starvation.

Not surprising I guess, just open the flight radar web page, or glance out the window at the endless cars , hear endless dogs barking (large meat eating pets). We haven't changed how we act, which would typically lead to changing how we vote.
Nearly everywhere there has been minor gains by Greens they are in retreat rather the massive surge needed to change policy. We concentrate on stupid shit like ecars rather then the changes needed.
No, that's wrong – it *is* already too late to prevent catastrophic damage to our planet’s climate, environment, and biodiversity. We have waited far too long.
Ecological collapse is unavoidable. In fact, it's already begun — with ocean acidification up by 30% and getting worse, with insect populations crashing, with extinctions happening many times faster than the background rate, and so on.
But that doesn't mean we should stop trying!
Because EVERY bit of natural habitat preserved is essential. EVERY species saved from extinction matters. And EVERY tenth of a degree of warming makes a big difference.
Collapse can't be prevented, I’m afraid, but the level and severity of that collapse could be lessened IF decisive action is taken immediately. But that will never happen under our current regime of capitalist domination.

What oil companies say: "We can use carbon capture and storage technology to help save the climate! All we need is billions of dollars more in government subsidies every year."
