He condemned #Republicans for an “all-out assault on law-abiding #immigrant #families,” including #AmericanCitizens, saying it was “unconscionable, unacceptable & it’s un-American.” The #OneBigBeautifulBill includes about $175 billion for the #Trump admin to boost #immigration *enforcement* & border security.
Nearly 4 hours into his speech, #House #Democratic Leader #HakeemJeffries said:
"How is it some on the other side of the aisle had principled opposition a few hours ago & now seem prepared to fold on the floor of the House of Representatives?".
Jeffries added: "What happened? What deals were cut? What occurred in the back room?"

Suspect in #Minnesota lawmaker #shootings #captured after manhunt, police say #VanceBoelter, the man accused of #shooting 2 #Democratic lawmakers & their spouses, was captured late Sunday in Sibley County after a sprawling manhunt involving more than 100 officers. State Rep #MelissaHortman & her husband, Mark, were shot & killed in their home, while #JohnHoffman & his wife, Yvette, survived.
“Do not approach & do not answer door unless 2 officers approach together. Call 911 to verify officer identity first,” the emergency alert said.
According to KMSP-TV, the #Democratic lawmakers were shot by 2 men who were dressed like #police officers & driving a car that looked like a police car. One of the suspects was taken into custody in Brooklyn Park after an officer-involved shooting. The 2nd suspect is still at large.
A list obtained by authorities from the suspected gunman’s vehicle names prominent #abortion rights advocates in #Minnesota, including many #Democratic lawmakers who have been outspoken about the issue, according to a source who had seen the list but was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

#JohnHoffman suffered at least 2 gunshot wounds while his wife Yvette was shot 3 times.
A second shooting happened a few miles south, near the Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park, at the home of State Representative #MelissaHortman, who has served in the House since 2005. She’s also the #Democratic leader in the Minnesota House. Both Hortman & her husband were shot.
There is currently no official word on the conditions of the victims.
The #Democratic Governors Association condemned #Trump’s decision to send #NationalGuard #troops into #LosAngeles over the objections of Governor #GavinNewsom as “an alarming abuse of power.” The association, which includes every Democratic #governor in the country, said in a statement that they stand with Newsom.
