Your good news for the day. HUMANITY! Thousands of volunteers from in and around the City of Valencia that were not as badly hit, headed into the affected areas today to help!
Since most roads and railways are blocked they came mostly on foot with their brooms, shovels, and packs of supplies.
Humanity is always at its best when its looking out for one another!!
Thinking about these floods in #Valencia, a city I nearly lived in, and looming massieve cuts to #HigherEd in the Netherlands by our far-right government, just about had me give up on humanity. But visiting the Alhambra filled me with quiet hope.
We as humanity *can* create stunningly beatiful things and keep them for a thousand years. And people visit there genuinely interested in its history.
Over 200 dead so far in #Valencia from #ClimateDisaster floods. Thousands displaced and disrupted. Towns and communities are cut off. Thousands are in need of basic supplies. The video is from Chiva (Xiva) where 490mm (20in) of rain fell in 8 hours, creating the incredible torrents.

Innerhalb eines Tages fiel in Teilen Spaniens so viel Regen wie sonst in einem Jahr. Sturzfluten rissen Autos mit und verwandelten Straßen in Flüsse. Allein in der Provinz Valencia gab es laut Behörden mehr als 92 Tote.
Bei schweren Unwettern in #Spanien sind nach Angaben der Rettungskräfte zahlreiche Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Laut einer vorläufigen Bilanz gebe es in der Provinz #Valencia 51 Todesopfer, teilten die örtlichen Rettungsdienste am Mittwoch auf X mit. Die Identifizierung der Leichen dauere an. Ein Todesopfer wurde zudem aus der Stadt Cuenca in der Region Kastilien-La Mancha gemeldet.
Wie Spaniens Staatliche Meteorologische Agentur #AEMET in der Früh mitteilte, sei auch der meteorologische Notstand weiter nicht beendet. „Es kommt zu sehr heftigen #Stürme'n, gestern in #Andalusien, heute in #Castellon. So wird es den größten Teil der Woche weitergehen“. In Castellon, einer Provinz der Region von #Valencia, habe es bereits in der Nacht starke #Regenfälle gegeben.
Nach der Unwetterkatastrophe in Spanien läuft die Suche nach Vermissten auf Hochtouren. Laut Regierung gibt es mittlerweile 140 Todesopfer, die meisten in der Region Valencia, wie die spanische Nachrichtenagentur EFE berichtet.

"Valencia's regional government admitted that it had only sent out a text message warning residents of the impending catastrophe at 8:12 PM, eight hours after the first floods were reported, and 10 hours after Spain’s AEMET issued an alert highlighting “extreme danger” across the region."
Disasters like this will keep happening because we are NOT ready. Nearly 100 lives lost because the early warning system failed.
