Most of us are familiar with feeling mixed emotions. For example, the way excitement and fear can co-mingle as you embark on a new challenge. Or the way love and sadness blend when a family member moves away.

A lot of psychology research hasn’t embraced the concept that both a positive and negative emotion can be held at the same time.
