You have been doing the right thing, they are being incredibly shortsighted by throwing away this work.
At the very least, couldn't they just put an RSS bot feed onto the existing accounts instead of throwing away all those follows? Most people follow government accounts for announcements and info, and an official bot is better than nothing.

The fact that all of the European Commission cannot find an agency to own it and continue maintaining it is unfathomable.
Especially in the context of how digital sovereignty gets so much lip-service from the Commission.
EC's priorities seem upside-down.

in reply to FediThing 🏳️🌈 • • •By the way, let's not get too depressed about this. Remember when Protonmail made an announcement they were withdrawing from the Fediverse, but then they came back again a while later?
At the very least, the EU now knows that the Fedi exists, that they have an alternative if decision-makers start being uncomfortable with Meta etc. When people have tried something they are way more likely to do it again.

Could you please clarify your (and other EU institutions) plans, because @EDPS is sending mixed and cryptic messages like 'experiment completed, service will be closed, only those who wish will remain'.
