Left-wing coalition wins French elections so King Macron forms right-wing government.

Such democracy.

(In case you needed yet another reminder that fucking neoliberals will always choose fascism over social justice when they feel their wallets are threatened.)

Stuff like this (and plenty in my own #usa #USpol ) makes cynical me wonder if “center-left” is just a #marketing ploy used by a subset of conservatives
in reply to Aral Balkan

So the left saves the day and Macron chooses the right. He has to go

tout en nous étranglant.

Your message asks about democracy and elections. Old systems can't be fair. We need new ways. OMR is a new way to rule. Everyone's vote counts. Decisions are fair. We want to unite people. We don't want a system for only one group. Your ideas are important.
in reply to Aral Balkan

Didn't the French people or politicians do something to try to not get a right wing gov?
in reply to Aral Balkan

The fascist appeasers will appease fascists right up to the point where they are marched into the camps.
in reply to Aral Balkan

I think we can all see how that man inspired such sustained rioting.

"macron's centrist party". What a joke.

Macron told he was "neither left, neither right" but all he did was right wing politics (and that's when he didn't endorse far right politics).

Just one of the rules of the Rules-based order, just because you voted out a government, doesn't mean that they have to resign.
in reply to Aral Balkan

Victimologists pretend they don't know how parliaments work and complain that winner takes all should rule. It's not a left v right issue, it's a "I don't really believe in current democracies" issue. 'People's democracies' are no better than fascists.
in reply to Aral Balkan

They didn't win the elections, they just got the most votes. To rule, they have to form coaliton, but nobody wants to work with each other for more or less reasonable reasons. Currently Barnier's cabinet has a chance of survivng no-confidence vote, unlike a government lead by any of the biggest parties.

Apropos, Interesting interview if you can get past the language barrier, from the perspective of the French left. (interviewed in Spanish)

ah the slow moving stench of plutocracy.

It poisons everything it touches. Hey, time to vote, but we’ll make sure the right people rule.

in reply to Aral Balkan

Waiting for the french people to be back on the street and smashing down the doors of corruption and deceipt.
in reply to Aral Balkan

...and people *still* get upset at me for not voting.

In case you wondered, this is why. I refuse to be a part of this illusion of democracy.

There is even a somewhat famous quote that sums this up nicely:
"If voting made any difference, it would be illegal"

@FantasticalEconomics I do not disagree with you, but his is probably a misguided attempt to avoid LW-RW gridlock. He leans RW so there you go.
