👁️👁️Mullenweg "pauses" WordPress Services for "holiday break." Takes jabs at #wpengine

Cryptic post by Matt Mullenweg announces a pause in WordPress services, expressing hope to reopen "sometime in the new year" saying that it hinged on his being able to find the “time, energy, and money." #WordPress

Paused:
New account registrations on WordPress.org
New plugin directory submissions
New plugin reviews
New theme directory submissions
New photo directory submissions

He writes the pause doesn’t affect the ability to install new instances of WordPress sites.

@uastronomer If I operated a major website off WordPress, I would truly consider migrating to something else after seeing the months of erratic behavior.

Like WPEngine or not, and the people behind it, but he is upset they took the marketplace that he wanted to create.

He is crashing and burning something very great.

It explains why WordPress became so bloated and dysfunctional, in my opinion, esp the backend admin, if he is this erratic in the development of that.

I don't host a lot of websites anymore, but the two important ones are both wordpress, and very old.

And I'm just working up the energy and free time to migrate them to something else. Ghost, maybe, or even just rebuild them as static html/css

@uastronomer There's a discussion going on at a different post thread about WordPress alternatives that just popped up in my timeline

"Craft is probably my favorite, Ghost is pretty good too. If you are into static sites, Eleventy is very flexible." writing.exchange/@ernie/113686…
